  • OCI application ‘Returned Unprocessed‘ - need copy of Indian passport (which is lost)

I have filled out 4 forms for OCI for my family. My wife and I were both born in India and we have since been naturalized, are now US citizens and have lost our Indian passports. We both completed the renunciation forms and filled out the notarized form indicating that our Indian passports were lost. The renunciations forms were approved and our applications were sent to the Indian embassy. I just received an email for all of our applications (including our US born children) stating that our applications were on hold because a copy of our Indian passport was needed.

I called the help line and they were of no help - they didn't even bother asking my name and flat out said "there's nothing we can do for you". My question is what can I do next? Should I make an appointment at the closest embassy? I sent an email back to CKGS and told them that I don't have our Indian passport. Our trip to India is 6 weeks away - any recommendations?

keep calling/email them back and ask them to escalate the issue. Also, email Indian embassy (you can find contact information on the website for person who is in charge of OCI).

Thanks for the reply. I called no less than 6 times (each time being placed on hold for 15 minutes) and each time was told the exact same thing - "there is nothing we can do to help you". I contacted the embassy in my region (Houston) via email, I did receive a reply and the consul is now requesting my parent's OCI information. This is just so frustrating...

New York CKGS took me on a journey similar to this when they misplaced my passport. After every time I called about it they sent me another email asking me to send the passport. This went on for about two months. Finally after many calls and emails to both CKGS and embassy they tracked it down. I'm not sure about the Houston area. Even though they are same company and embassy, they all functions in their on weird ways.
Try sending them a letter explaining the situation with the copy of the email and any other supporting documents you can provide proving your ties in India. Also, ask them what other supporting documents you can provide. Good luck.
